Short answer: No! As we like to say, you don’t have to be fit to start, but you do have to start to get fit!

We cater for all fitness levels, and the exercises and movements are tailored to you as an individual, so your personal fitness level becomes irrelevant. We ensure that everyone is taught the basics so you can understand how your body should feel during different movements. Once the fundamentals are learned, intensity and weight are increased to allow you to progress.

This is a question we often get asked by women. In short, it’s highly unlikely that CrossFit will make you bulky. Adding significant muscle requires a lot of dedication to your training and deliberate changes to your diet, and it certainly doesn’t happen overnight. More importantly, the female body is not designed to react that way to weights. If you’re still concerned, visit the gym and chat with some of our female members!

At CrossFit Derry, your safety and well-being are our primary concern, and our mission is to make you healthier. Of course, there are inherent risks with any exercise, but CrossFit is not dangerous unless the coach’s advice is ignored or people lift with their egos. CrossFit Derry’s reputation as a gym that helps rehabilitate people with old injuries is growing. People are now being referred to us specifically because they’ve had an injury that other gyms can’t manage or because they have found that training on their own is unproductive without help to adapt their workouts. We specialise in adapting and scaling workouts for people who need help getting fit again.
